▸ Do you need a visa for Egypt?
Yes, most European citizens need a visa. It can be obtained on arrival at the airport (25 USD) or online via the Egyptian e-Visa portal. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months.
▸ How long is the tourist visa valid?
The standard tourist visa is valid for 30 days with single entry. An extension can be requested at the immigration office.
▸ Do you need a passport?
Yes, a passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry is required. We recommend carrying two passport photos for the visa-on-arrival procedure.
Health & Safety
▸ Are vaccinations required?
No mandatory vaccinations are required for travelers from Europe. Hepatitis A and B prophylaxis is recommended.
▸ Is the water safe to drink?
No, we recommend drinking only sealed bottled water. Avoid ice and raw vegetables not washed with purified water.
▸ Is it safe to travel in Egypt?
The main tourist destinations (Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, the Red Sea) are safe. We recommend checking your foreign ministry's travel advisories for updates.
Currency & Payments
▸ What is the currency?
The official currency is the Egyptian Pound (EGP). 1 EUR ≈ 33-35 EGP (check the current rate). The US dollar is widely accepted.
▸ Where to exchange money?
You can exchange at the airport, banks and authorized exchange offices. Avoid street exchanges. Credit cards are accepted in large hotels and restaurants.
▸ How much does a trip cost?
Average daily budget: €40-60 (budget), €80-150 (mid-range), €200+ (luxury). Prices include accommodation, meals and transport.
Transport
▸ How to get to Egypt?
Direct flights from major European cities to Cairo, Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada. Main carriers: EgyptAir, ITA Airways, Neos, Wizz Air.
▸ How to get around Egypt?
Domestic flights (EgyptAir), trains (Cairo-Luxor-Aswan line), buses (Go Bus, Upper Egypt), taxis and Uber in major cities. For sightseeing: Nile cruises.
▸ Do you need an international driving permit?
Yes, an international driving permit is required to rent a car. However, we do not recommend renting a car if you are not used to Egyptian traffic.
Climate & When to Go
▸ What is the best time to go?
October-April for Cairo and Upper Egypt (mild temperatures). The Red Sea is enjoyable all year round. Avoid June-August for temple visits (40°C+).
▸ What to wear?
Light cotton clothing, sun protection, a hat. For mosques: cover shoulders and knees. Bring a sweater for desert evenings.
Culture & Customs
▸ What is the language?
The official language is Egyptian Arabic. English is spoken in tourist areas, and other European languages are understood in some resorts such as Sharm.
▸ Should you tip?
Yes, tipping (baksheesh) is very common in Egypt. We suggest 10-15% in restaurants and small tips for various services (5-20 EGP).
▸ Rules for mosques?
Remove your shoes at the entrance and dress modestly (shoulders and knees covered). Women should cover their hair. Ask before taking photos.
